Rhone Route Cycling Adventure

Cycle along the Rhone Route No. 1 - the ultimate experience for anyone who loves long e-bike or gravel bike tours. Experience 3 days of cycling fun including luggage transport and discover the majestic Valais mountains, the picturesque Rhone valley and the impressive expanses of Lac Lémans.

Day 1: Arrival in Saas-Fee

You travel individually by train to Saas-Fee. At the Walliserhof Grand-Hotel & Spa, you can relax and unwind on 2,100 square meters. In the evening, enjoy the 4-course gourmet board and be enchanted by the luxurious ambience. After your arrival or after dinner, treat yourself to a stroll through the beautiful mountain village of Saas-Fee.

Day 2: Via Visp past Sierre and Sion to Martigny

After a princely breakfast, you have the choice of starting your tour in Saas-Fee and whizzing down the pass road to Visp or beginning your bike tour in Visp. From Visp, you cycle through the charming Valais village of Baltschieder, where the typical black-nosed sheep roam the pastures. The route continues to Raron, the so-called “Rilke village”, which is known for its connection to the poet Rainer Maria Rilke and reflects the inspiring landscape of Valais. You continue on and reach Leuk - from here, there are vineyards as far as the eye can see. The route continues through the unique natural landscape of the Pfynwald Nature Park. You continue to Sierre, the “town of a hundred hills” and enjoy the view of the charming mountain villages of the Val d'Anniviers for the last time before continuing along the river where the “La Navisence” flows into the Rhone. Here, small sandbanks invite you to take a refreshing break. Follow the route with beautiful views of the vineyards to the turquoise waters of Lac de la Brèche and the Pouta Fontana marshland, a paradise for over 160 bird species. You reach the lively cantonal capital of Sion with its impressive rock bastions of Valère and Tourbillon. The legendary Valais headwind could be a bit of a problem here - the nicer the weather, the stronger it blows up the valley, especially in the afternoon. The stage continues past the Aproz Sources Minérales SA mineral water spring, through the orchards and vineyards of the Lower Valais, home to numerous apricots, apples and grapes. An exciting mix of history and modernity awaits you on the outskirts of Martigny. You will be welcomed at the Hotel Vatel. Treat yourself to a delicious Valais white wine as an aperitif and round off the evening with a delicious multi-course meal. For art lovers, we recommend a detour to the famous Fondation Pierre Gianadda.

Day 3: From the Rhone Valley to the expanses of Lac Lémans

Fortify yourself with a rich breakfast buffet before getting back in the saddle. The route first takes you past the Evionnaz nature reserve, home to frogs, kingfishers and butterflies. The route continues into the narrow valley near Saint-Maurice. Here you will find the abbey with its church treasure, which contains impressive examples of medieval goldsmithing and is one of the most important art-historical attractions in Switzerland. From Saint-Maurice, the route takes a relaxed route through the Chablais region to Bouveret, where the Rhone flows into Lake Geneva. The beautiful “Petit Camargue” nature reserve awaits you, inviting you to enjoy a leisurely cycle. Shortly afterwards, the view of Lake Geneva opens up. This is where the tranquillity ends and the hustle and bustle around Chillon Castle and Montreux begins. Along the lakeside promenade, you can enjoy the expansive lake panorama and the lively flair of these famous towns. In Vevey, marvel at the full-size monument to Charlie Chaplin. The cycle path then plunges up and down the steep vineyards of Lavaux (UNESCO World Heritage Site). With a vineyard area of almost 4,000 hectares, Vaud is the largest wine-growing region in Switzerland after Valais. You pass through the beautiful wine villages of St-Saphorin, Epesses and Lutry. The wine route ends in Lutry and it is only around five kilometers to Lausanne-Ouchy, your destination for today. On arrival, visit the Olympic Museum, stroll along the lakeside promenade or take the metro to the enchanting old town of Lausanne, which boasts a stunning Gothic cathedral. As Lausanne has so much to offer, we have not reserved dinner for you. We will be happy to reserve a table for you at your beautiful 4-star hotel in Lausanne Ouchy on request. Our tip for explorers: the Flon district in the heart of Lausanne. This modern and innovative district offers a wide selection of restaurants and bars and is vibrant both day and night.

Day 4: Further and further along Lac Lémans to Prangins

After a hearty breakfast, get back on your bike to tackle the last stage of your Rhone tour. Continue along the shores of Lac Lémans.  A beautiful section stretches between St-Sulpice and Préverenges, where the Venoge, a 38-kilometre-long tributary of Lake Geneva, flows into the lake. Sandy beaches and sunbathing lawns invite you to linger before continuing on to Morges. A traditional market is held in Morges on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the year. Leave the old town and reach the lake again in St-Prex. The cycle route then leaves the shores of Lake Geneva again to enjoy the glistening blue of Lac Léman for a few hundred meters at La Pêcherie beach. Once you arrive in Rolle, it is worth visiting the elongated little town with its four-towered castle and bourgeois and winegrowers' houses. Follow the signs towards Nyon and leave Route 1 in Prangins in the direction of the lakeshore. Your destination for today: the Hotel La Barcarolle, directly on the shores of Lac Lémans. Refresh yourself after your arrival with a swim in Lac Léman, thanks to direct access to the lake. In the evening, a multi-course dinner awaits you in the form of Wine & Dine, where you can enjoy a delicious glass of wine with every course.

Day 5: Individual journey home

Indulge yourself once again with a generous breakfast buffet before embarking on your individual journey home.
