On board with the yellow post bus or with the Rhaetian railway

from CHF 712.- for 3 nights price per person in double room

The eventful cruise with the Rhaetian Railway and the yellow post bus on the most beautiful routes through the Grisons also leaves time for an active hike through our insider tips!

Grisons – the only tri-lingual canton in Switzerland – is well-known for its diversely beautiful landscapes and its culinary specialities. With 615 lakes, over 900 mountain peaks and 150 valleys, Grisons (also called the “Bündnerland”) offers a unique backdrop both in the summer as well as the winter. One of the most beautiful times of the year, however, is Autumn when the forests turn a golden colour, chestnuts fall from the trees and the spectacular festivities when the cattle return from the mountain pastures. On this quirky Postal Bus tour through the Bündnerland you will comfortably experience many interesting places – either on board the yellow post bus or with the Rhaetian railway.

Day 1

die rheinschlucht im kanton graubünden aus der vogelperspektive

We suggest that you come by public transport as far as Chur and then take the Rhätische Bahn railway through the Rhine gorge to Ilanz. Here, the Rhine idyllically snakes through the often 300- meter-high chasm before it runs into the North Sea some 1233 kilometres later. The Rhätische Bahn railway runs along the banks of the Rhine and allows for an imposing view through the gorge. You can add a ticket for the Rhine gorge journey by paying a small supplement when you book your tour.

From Ilanz, take the Post Bus continuing via Laax to Flims-Waldhaus and the HOTEL ADULA. Relax in the Wellness and spa facilities and tantalise your taste buds with a gourmet evening dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.

Recommendation: If you want to explore the Rhine Gorge on foot, we recommend getting off at Versam-Safien on the railway line from Chur to Ilanz and go for a one and half hour walk to Valendas-Sagogn. There you can get on the Rheatian Railway again and continue to Ilanz. The footpath leads along the banks of the Rhine and provides a close gorge experience. Alternatively, the viewpoint "Il Spir" near Flims is also worth a visit.

Day 2

Ausblick auf den einzigartigen caumasee in graubünden
The Lake Cauma is one of the most famous lakes in the canton of Grisons. At about 1000m above sea level, nestling in a thick pine forest, the “Lai da Cauma” is beautifully picturesque and you absolutely have to take a walk around it. From HOTEL ADULA it will take about an hour.
After your morning walk, the Post Bus will take you via Chur on to Lenzerheide. At the HOTEL SCHWEIZERHOF you can spend a peaceful afternoon in the hotel’s hammam – the largest in the Swiss Alps. We will be happy to book an additional massage for you. Alternatively, the Anda – Lenzerheide fox trail (approx. 2 hours) offers the chance for a bit of physical exertion in the great outdoors with some challenging route finding around the Heidsee lake. We can book this for you for a small surcharge. Please tell us when you book which programme you would prefer.
Relaxed from your Wellness experience, savour your multi-course menu in the restaurant at the Schweizerhof before your next day’s adventure begins.

Day 3

On the third day of your trip, you take the Post Bus over the historic Julier Pass towards St. Moritz. This crossing was an important link in the transport system as far back as Roman times. Today it remains the only pass that is open all year round between German-speaking Switzerland and the Engadin.
Heading out from St. Moritz, you’ll walk to the magical Lake
Staz lake which lies in an open glade of the vast Staz forest and is one of the most popular bathing lakes of the Engadin. In autumn, the forest turns a wonderful golden colour making a spectacular backdrop.
From the lake at Staz you continue towards Pontresina as far as HOTEL SARATZ. The whole trip lasts about 1 and a half hours. Finish off your day after a relaxing break in the Wellness oasis with a gourmet dinner accompanied by a good glass of wine.

Extend your stay to six nights:

Day 4

Today there is one of the most spectacular Alpine crossings waiting for you. You’ll take the Bernina Express from Pontresina to Tirano (IT). The highest section of railway in the Alps, it links northern and southern Europe and builds physical as well as metaphorical bridges between different regions, languages and cultures. This stretch is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, boasts 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and overcomes gradients of up to 7%. Thanks to its large panoramic windows you will have an uninterrupted view of the Alpine panorama.

The Valtellina town of Tirano is the terminus of the railway and is perfect for a spot of lunch. We recommend the “Pizzeria la Botte” which has a selection of inviting Valtelline specialities such as “Pizzoccheri” for you to feast on. The restaurant is located 10 minutes’ walk from the station, near the church. Suitably replenished, your journey continues by train back into Switzerland as far as Zuoz and the HOTEL CASTELL.

You can relive the experiences of your day as you relax in the Wellness and spa facilities before being spoiled at the hotel’s restaurant.

Day 5

Taking the Post Bus again, your journey continues from Zuoz, through the Swiss National Park, over the Ofen Pass and into the idyllic Val Müstair. The Swiss National Park is the oldest national park in the Alps. Together with the communes of Val Müstair and Scuol, it forms the Engiadina Val Müstair UNESCO biosphere reserve. The park, like the Val Müstair, is renowned for its biodiversity. Wild animals can be monitored particularly efficiently in this unique setting.

In case you’d like to get closer to nature, the best place to get off is at the post bus stop “Sta Maria Val Müstair, Posta” and then follow the Jakobsweg as far as Müstair. Once there, we recommend you visit the

St Johann cloisters, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site since 1983. From Müstair take the Post Bus as far as Samnaun. Along the way you will come past Lake Reschen where the famous church tower mystically juts out from the water. Safely arrived at the CHALET SILVRETTA HOTEL & SPA, indulge yourself in a heavenly jacuzzi bath in the Wellness facility and let the hotel’s chef take care of dinner …

Day 6

On Day 6 you’ll take the Post Bus from Samnaun via Scuol towards S-charl, one the most remote places in Switzerland. In this sleepy village you can really disconnect from every day life. We suggest that you do the walk from S-charl back to Scuol (or at least a part of it) and check out the jaw-droppingly huge scree gorge. You’ll spend the last evening of your Postal Tour relaxing in the Wellness facilities before enjoying one last culinary highlight from the restaurant at the HOTEL BELVÉDÈRE.

Day 7

Savour once again the wide variety of the breakfast buffet before you prepare for your homeward journey. The tour didn’t weigh you down with luggage but at least now you’re full to the brim with new experiences and impressions of the very diverse Grisons.
