Early afternoon: arrival at the Hotel Hof Weissbad or the lodge.  Then take a short trip to Appenzell – the local train will take you to Switzerland's smallest but most culturally exciting cantonal capital in just 6 minutes. The colourful, well-kept houses in the town centre are tightly packed together and richly decorated with ornaments – the Landsgemeindeplatz, where votes are still cast by a show of hands today – and the unique craft workshops – coopers and woodturners, weavers and embroiderers, hammered dulcimer makers and woodcarvers, who exhibit their works – make Appenzell one of the most fascinating places in Switzerland. We will provide you with a map for a comprehensive tour of the village. Don't miss a visit to the Chocolat Manufacture with its shop in the centre – and an aperitif with Appenzeller cheese platter at the (nomen est omen) ‘Café Restaurant Flade’. If you like, you can take a leisurely hour-long stroll back to the hotel along the Wissbach stream. Or perhaps you have rented an e-bike or bicycle, in which case you can ‘fly’ back to the hotel in 10 minutes. 

Evening: Treat yourself to regional specialities from Käthi Fässler's award-winning cuisine in the hotel restaurant and get in the mood for the days ahead.

Breakfast from the extensive buffet

Morning: Visit the herb world of Appenzeller Alpenbitter. Experience the herb world with all your senses and get closer to the well-kept secret: the original recipe for Appenzeller Alpenbitter with 42 selected herbs. The public tour takes place at 10 a.m. Afterwards, you will also visit the herbal tea shop. 10 a.m. – 11.30 a.m.

Change of scene: Visit the Appenzeller show dairy in nearby Stein. Learn (almost) everything there is to know about cheese-making – but no, the recipe for Appenzeller cheese is one of the best-kept secrets and is guaranteed not to be revealed.

Afternoon: Immerse yourself in the sweet world of Appenzeller Bärli-Biber. Under the guidance of an experienced master baker, you will make your own Bärli-Biber and learn more about the history of this traditional treat. 2 p.m. – 3.30 p.m.

Evening: On Wednesdays, the Hotel Hof Weissbad hosts a traditional Appenzell evening with a speciality buffet and live music – a feast for all the senses.

Early morning: Start the day with a special breakfast at the famous Aescher mountain inn, which is spectacularly built into a rock face and is a popular photo motif.

Afterwards: From Aescher, take a hike via Wildkirchli to Lake Seealpsee and back to Wasserlauen. This route offers breathtaking views and takes you through the impressive mountain landscape of the Alpstein – it is easy to walk and takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes – but we recommend good footwear – and take the rucksack provided in your hotel room with you – with a full water bottle! You will receive the hiking route with a GPS app. 

Afternoon: Relax in the new bath and sauna house at the Hotel Hof Weissbad. Afterwards, you will be pampered with an Appenzell herbal stamp massage and can reflect on the experiences of the last few days. 

Evening: Enjoy another exquisite dinner in the hotel restaurant.
