Experience the most spectacular highlights of the Grisons railway world! Lean back and enjoy the view of mountains, lakes and glaciers through the panoramic window of the Rhaetian Railway. Over sophisticated engineering structures and through beautiful natural and cultural landscapes - get on and off wherever you like. Whether it's a hike through the Rhine Gorge or a Pizzoccheri in Poschiavo - with the graubündenPASS in your pocket, the entire RhB rail network, all post bus lines in the canton, regional buses and some mountain and cable cars are open to you! In the evening, let the impressions in the spa and wellness area of the Grisons Private Selection Hotels take effect on you and enjoy culinary creations made from local products, accompanied by a fine drop of wine from the wine cellar!

1st Day: Welcome to the Regio - through the Rhine Gorge to Davos.

The best place to start your journey is Andermatt - the ideal starting point for your Graubünden discovery tour. The train climbs leisurely towards the Oberalp Pass. The Rhine has its source nearby. Its source lies at the small, mystical Tomasee lake at the foot of Piz Badus. The Rhine connects the Alps with the North Sea and is one of the most important rivers in Europe. So it was that, in the spirit of this connection between mountain and sea, the highest lighthouse in the world (2046 metres above sea level) is located on the Oberalp Pass. The next section of the route takes you into the Rhine Gorge. Ruinaulta is what the locals call the monumental gorge between Ilanz and Reichnau in Romansh. The gorge was formed 10,000 years ago by the Flims landslide and today forms a unique natural backdrop: turquoise-green water and rock faces up to 350 metres high. Enjoy lunch in Chur before continuing on the Albula line to Filisur. Here we recommend a round trip on the "Landwasser Express" Tschutschubahn. You reach Davos by nostalgia train. A historic journey with train compositions from the 1920s will make your railway lover's heart beat faster!

What a railway experience day! Round it off with relaxing hours and a treat for the palate at the Grischa Hotel**** in Davos Platz.

Tips for your day's programme:
  • Moderately difficult mountain hike from the Oberalp Pass to Lake Toma, the source of the Rhine, of approx. 4-5 hours (see map material).
  • Easy impressive hike from Valendas to Versam in the heart of the Rhine Gorge (see map material)

Upgrades/additional services:

  • Seat reservation panorama train Glacier Express Andermatt-Davos (incl. nostalgia train): CHF 49.- per person
  • Round trip with the Tschutschubahn Landwasser-Express: CHF 15.- per person
  • Luggage transport from Andermatt to Davos: price on request

Arrival by public transport to Andermatt:
From Zurich and Lucerne you can reach Andermatt in +/- two hours via Erstfeld and Göschenen.
From Valais you can reach Andermatt with the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn on the beautiful route of the Glacier Express through the Goms and the Furka Tunnel.
From Ticino, you can reach Andermatt through the Gotthard tunnel via Göschenen.

Please note that the ticket for the journey to Andermatt is not included in the offer.

Arrival by car:
You have the possibility to park your car at the P+Rail in Chur. The cost of a parking space is CHF 12 per day. For the excursion to the Rhine Gorge from Chur, we recommend the return journey to Ilanz (e.g. with the Rhine Gorge Adventure Train. This runs every Saturday and Sunday:
8 May to 31 October, Chur departs 08.34 / Ilanz arrives 09.23 - Ilanz departs 09.50 or 15.58 / Chur arrives 10.30 or 16.45).

2nd Day: Pure nature in the Engadine

After a hearty breakfast with a selection of abundant natural products from the region, you hand in your suitcase at the reception and start weightlessly - with only your day's luggage on your back - into your next Graubünden railway and nature experience. From Klosters, you travel through the Vereina Tunnel from Prättigau into the Engadine. Rustic, typical Engadine mountain villages adorn the landscape along the track. For nature lovers, we recommend an excursion to the Swiss National Park. The National Park Centre is located in Zernez. Learn more about the fauna and flora, the history and the inexhaustible diversity of nature. You can experience the National Park and especially its flora and fauna at first hand on a 3-hour round hike into the valley with the most wildlife in the park - the Val Trupchun - our tip!

End your day tour in Zuoz, high above the rooftops at the Hotel Castell****S. Here, art enthusiasts encounter an extraordinary collection of artworks, relaxation seekers pure relaxation in a fascinating world of light and steam - be it in the hammam or Japanese rock bath - and gourmets taste perfection and harmony.

Tips for your daily programme:
  • Visit Swiss National Park Centre Zernez
  • Hike Val Trupchun

3rd Day: On the Bernina line into Val Poschiavo

Freshly invigorated by the coffee specialities and egg dishes, you tackle the next railway adventure. The most spectacular Alpine crossing begins in St. Moritz. On the route of the Bernina Express you meander harmoniously past lakes, mountains and glaciers through the Engadine mountains. The roof of the RhB, the Ospizio Bernina, is enthroned at 2253 metres above sea level. Masterly construction engineering and line management give the line its UNESCO character. The circular viaduct at Brusio is clear proof of this.
So many impressions make you hungry. We recommend lunch in the picturesque village centre of Poschiavo. Be sure to choose one of the 13 inns that have signed the "100% Valposchiavo" charter. Here, local products find a very special place on the menu. Labelled dishes guarantee a composition of 100% local raw materials! The classic: fine pizzoccheri and a glass of Valtellina wine!

On the way back, enjoy the view of the unspoilt Alpine panorama once again. Enjoy a drink in the beautiful mountain scenery. Either in Celerina near St. Moritz at the Cresta Palace Hotel****S or in Pontresina at the Hotel Saratz ****S! Relaxing spa moments and upscale culinary delights await you at both hotels!

Tips for your day programme:
  • Ride in the open observation car, daily from end of June to beginning of September - Infos
  • Visit to the Caviglia glacier mill
  • Lunch in a restaurant "100% Valposchiavo": Infos and participating restaurants
  • Guided tour of Poschiavo village (reservation required)
  • Adventure trip on the nostalgic train from Pontresina to Alp Grüm and back (no extra charge) - Infos

Upgrades/additional services:
  • Seat reservation for the Bernina Express panoramic train: CHF 26 per person each way = CHF 52.- as roundtrip

4th Day: On the Albula line over architectural works of art

After dropping off your luggage and enjoying a hearty breakfast, you board your next railway experience: the Albula line. Here, the red railway overcomes a difference in altitude of 1000 metres, and thanks to the Solis Viaduct, Landwasser Viaduct and the helical tunnels between Bergün and Preda, it does so without a cogwheel. The line has existed since 1903 and thus dates from the time of the railway pioneers. Like the Bernina line, the showpiece of the Albula line is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Be sure to visit the Albula Railway Museum in Bergün and learn about the background of the historic railway line. You can enjoy lunch in the "Büfèt" on original seating furniture from various dining and saloon cars. Take a digestive walk through the picturesque village of Bergün. Afterwards, the last section of the Albula Line awaits you: past Filisur, Tiefencastel and Thusis to the Alpine metropolis of Chur. On this section, the 65-metre high and 136-metre long Landwasser Viaduct delights with its beauty and boldness - one of the most elegant bridge constructions in Graubünden and the most photographed work of art on the Rhaetian Railway. Once you arrive in Chur, another railway highlight awaits you: the Arosa Line. Within an hour, the red train takes you from the city to the mountains. While you stroll past the city wall, the Maltese Tower and the Upper Gate at the beginning, the train meanders through untouched mountain scenery minutes later. The mountain railway seems to float on the Langwieserviadukt over the Plessur. In just one hour you climb 1,000 metres in altitude and reach the Swiss holiday paradise of Arosa.

Breathe in the fresh mountain air on your walk to the Blatter's Arosa - Hotel****. Enjoy the deep warmth in the sauna area and let the impressions of this spectacular railway adventure settle as you float in the water. After that you enjoy a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Tips for your day programme:
  • Visit and lunch at the Albula Railway Museum in Bergün
  • Visit Infoarena Albula Tunnel
  • Moderately difficult hike Preda - Bergün on the Albula Railway Experience Trail (approx. 2h30) (see map material)
  • Insider tip: Hike to Lake Palpuogna: approx. 45min from Preda or as a stage of the Via Albula from Spinas to Preda in 4h30 - medium-difficulty mountain hike (see map material)
  • Visit to Arosa Bärenland

5th Day: Final stop - have a good journey home!

Have breakfast like in the royal palace: a rich, healthy and tasty selection of products await you at the delicious breakfast buffet. If you still want to go on an excursion in the mountains, you can of course leave your luggage at the Blatter's Hotel Arosa. During your journey home via Chur, enjoy once again the floating feeling on the Langwieserviadukt and the last panoramic views of the breathtaking Graubünden mountains!
