Arrival by train
We recommend travelling with the Rhaetian Railway. The route through the Prättigau via Klosters and Vereina into the Engadine is particularly beautiful. From Landquart the train runs every hour and takes you directly to Scuol-Tarasp. The porter will be happy to pick you up from the Hotel Belvédère at the station. Please inform the hotel of your arrival in good time: Tel. +41 (0)81 288 58 17.
Arrival by car
You can reach the Hotel Belvédère from Zurich via Landquart, Davos and the Flüela Pass. The Vereina car transport from Klosters will take you comfortably to the Lower Engadine and to Scuol. The hotel will be happy to provide you with a reduced-price ticket for the RhB Vereina car transport. Please order this directly with your reservation. Alternatively, you can combine the journey with a pass ride over the Julier.
The Hotel Belvédère****S is nestled in the beautiful mountain landscape of the Lower Engadine. Here tradition, authenticity and hospitality merge with modern design and comfort. Enjoy your welcome aperitif with a breathtaking view of the Engadine mountains. Then return to the Engadine Bad Scuol for extended bathing rituals before rounding off your first day of travel with culinary delights in the Hotel Restaurant Allegra.
Enjoy a rich and strengthening breakfast from the buffet.
For today we recommend a medium-difficulty hike from S-Charl to the Biosphäre Val Müstair.
You can reach S-Charl by bus no. 913, which leaves from the bus stop "Scuol, Belvédère", directly in front of the hotel. We recommend you take the bus at 08.37 or 09.37. You will reach S-Charl in about 40 minutes. This is where the beautiful tour from S-Charl through the Val Plazer to the Biosphäre Val Müstair starts. The path leads along the Via Alpina through the Val Plazer to the Swiss-Italian border and ends in Müstair, where a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Monastery of St. John is worthwhile! The hike takes about 4h45, whereby you walk 500 metres up and 1'050 metres down (see map material).
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, leave your luggage at the reception desk for onward transport to Zuoz.
For hiking and nature lovers we recommend a rather difficult hike over the 2677 m high pass of the Fuorcla Val dal Botsch with its beautiful views. The starting point is the post bus stop Scuol, Val Mingèr. You can get there by bus no. 913 in the direction of S-Charl (as on the 2nd day of your journey).
This is where the varied pass hike begins, linking two regions of the Swiss National Park with different characters. In addition to the mountain flora rich in species, the magnificent view from the top of the pass at an altitude of 2677 m, the alluvial fans in the rear Val Plavna, the witch's head and the possibility of watching deer in the Val Mingèr await nature lovers. The hike lasts 5h30, with more than 1000 metres of altitude difference to be overcome (see map).
The tour ends at the post bus station Il Fuorn (P6) from where you can take the post bus to Zernez and then the RhB to Zouz. From Zuoz railway station it is a 30 minute walk to the Hotel Castell. The hotel will be happy to pick you up at the station. Please inform the hotel of your arrival time in good time: Tel. +41 (0)81 851 52 53.
Pamper your body and soul in the wonderfully warm spa area of Hotel Castell****S and enjoy a fine gourmet menu on a half-board basis.
Tipps for your itinerary:
- Visit Swiss National Park Centre Zernez: Infos
- Guided art tour by the hotel management at the Hotel Castell, every Thursday at 17.00h (registration required)
Strengthen yourself at the breakfast buffet and enjoy your coffee in peace and quiet. Compared to the previous day, today's programme is "rather" a leisurely one. But there is a lot to marvel at:
We recommend the mostly flat hike into the wildly rich Val Trupchun. The tour can also be undertaken in bad weather and offers a variety of observation possibilities for animals and Pflanzenfreunden. This hike is one of the most popular routes in the national park, especially during the rut of the stags at the end of September. The possibility of a round tour via high altitude path and valley path is attractive. From the two resting places Val Mela and Alp Trupchun you can observe the animal inhabitants of Val Trupchun at close range. Thanks to the geological conditions, the flora in Val Trupchun is one of the most beautiful in the whole Engadine! The hike takes about 4 hours, up and down are each about 430 metres in altitude (see map material).
The simpler option is to take the Express Parc Naziunel from Zuoz Staziun to the Varusch Park Hut.
Enjoy your last evening at the Hotel Castell and let yourself, your body and your palate be pampered once again!
Rich buffet breakfast before you start your journey home. We recommend the trip via Samedan. Change there and enjoy the panoramic journey with the Rhaetian Railway on the UNESCO World Heritage route of the Albula Line to Chur.
