Using the Swiss rail network, you can travel in comfort, quickly and guaranteed traffic-jam free through the Gotthard tunnel. You’ll then arrive at the station in Locarno to be met by your hosts from the Boutique-
Hotel Remorino in Minusio and delivered to the charming hotel with a great location - quiet and just a stone’s throw from the beach promenade. You’ll be able to relax perfectly in the classic Mediterranean ambience. With the Ticino-Ticket you can benefit from free travel on all Ticino public transport. If you do decide to take a trip out, for example to the wild and romantic Verzasca valley though, you might spontaneously decide that it could be more fun in a Cinquecento cabriolet or by E-bike.
Depending on what takes your fancy, enjoy 2 or 3 nights in the villa district of Locarno and take your taste buds on a journey of culinary discovery at the nearby Grotti. We alsco recommend you to enjoy a hiking day in the picturesque Verzasca valley. Before you know it, it’ll be time to move on … They say the journey is just as important as the destination and your “transfer day” will be one to remember. Leaving your luggage at the Hotel Remorino, you’ll take the Centovalli Express (thanks to your Ticino Card) towards Verdasio and the cable car up to 898 metres above sea level and the dreamy artists’ mountain town of Verdasio. Take a pleasant walk with breath-taking views, first across green pastures, then seemingly never-ending chestnut copses and soon enough, Lake Maggiore and the Brissago islands. On the descent towards the lake, stop for a breather at the Grotto da Peo in Monti di Ronco which is not to be missed. If you reserve in advance, the hotel bus will gladly come and pick you up from the Grotto da Peo (CHF 30.– flat fee). Expect about a 4 hour walk from Verdasio to the Grotto da Peo – and a further 1h40 to your final destination, the Boutique-Hotel La Rocca in Porto Ronco.
Your bags will be waiting for you in your room… your eyes will take some getting used to the breathtaking view. But the La Rocca has much, much, more to offer than “just” the amazing view – for example the culinary specialities, lovingly prepared and served in the Ristorante Panoramico. Head Chef Antonio Nogueira is a proven master of the Ticino risotto – on our last visit, there were 11 perfectly refined versions of this fine, hearty speciality on the menu – from more than 200 recipes created by the chef. The following day we recommend you take a trip to the Brissago islands and visit the botanical gardens. And you might want to have a stroll around Ascona and round off your day with an aperitif on the lake promenade? The hotel shuttle bus from La Rocca will bring you straight back to the hotel for dinner.
