1. What is a Private Selection round trip?
It is a multi-stage journey where you stay in a different 4- or 5-star Private Selection hotel each night, connected by train, bus or car. By day you discover landscapes, cities and culture; in the evening you relax in the hotel and enjoy dinner. The route, hotels and key services are organised for you in advance.

2. Which scenic trains do the round trips use?
Switzerland’s famous panoramic trains – the Glacier Express between Zermatt and St. Moritz (about 8 hours) and the Bernina Express from Chur or St. Moritz to Tirano (about 4 hours) – plus the Palm Express postbus from the Engadin down to Lugano. Some trips combine several of these lines.

3. Do I need a Swiss Travel Pass, or are the train tickets included?
It depends on the trip. Many rail round trips already include the train tickets and the required seat reservations as part of the package. On the panoramic trains the seat reservation is always compulsory and separate from the fare; each tour description states exactly what is included.

4. Is a seat reservation required on the Glacier and Bernina Express?
Yes. Both are premium panoramic trains where a seat reservation is mandatory and additional to the fare or rail pass. The same routes are also served by regular regional trains, which need no reservation but do not have the panoramic carriages.

5. How many days should a round trip take?
Anything from a 2-night mini round trip to journeys of a week or more. For the full Glacier Express route you cannot go out and back in a single day, so at least one overnight is needed – exactly the hotel-to-hotel idea. Around 5 to 7 days suits the classic combinations comfortably.

6. Where do the trips start, and how do I get there?
Switzerland’s rail network is easy to reach from Zurich, Geneva and Basel airports. Starting points such as St. Moritz, Zermatt or Lucerne are served by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). The exact start and end points are confirmed in each tour’s details.

7. When is the best time of year to travel?
Round trips run year-round. June to September brings green valleys and clear mountain views, while winter (roughly mid-December to early March) offers snowy landscapes. The panoramic trains run separate summer and winter timetables, and panoramic seats can sell out in high season, so book ahead.

8. Can I do a round trip as a self-drive road trip instead of by train?
Yes. Self-drive itineraries let you travel by car at your own pace – for example across several Alpine countries – staying in a Private Selection hotel each night, with the route and accommodation arranged for you in advance.

9. Is luggage transferred between the hotels?
On selected rail round trips your luggage is transferred from hotel to hotel, so you travel with just a day bag. Whether luggage transfer is included depends on the trip and is stated in each tour description.

10. Can the itinerary be customised?
Many trips offer flexible options such as a variable length of stay, extra nights, individual stops or alternative routes. You travel individually rather than in a fixed group, and the team is happy to help tailor the journey to your wishes.
