Wellness Hotel Stoos
One of happiest and most memorable holidays to date, thanks in no small part to this wonderful hotel! We felt we had one of the best rooms in the hotel (on the 2nd floor with a large balcony looking towards the beautiful valley and mountains beyond), and the room provided everything we needed. The bed was particularly large and comfortable and had no end board (important for me, being 6’3”!). We took half board, and the food was of a consistently high quality. We particularly loved the salad buffet bar which was perfectly fresh every day and had such a wide range of salads to choose from. The main meal options were great too, and as a vegetarian, there was one option that changed each day. The desserts were generally great, although they did like putting savoury pea shoots on almost all of them which didn’t really work with the taste of the desserts! A very small point though … The spa was incredible and it became our daily routine to get back to the hotel around 4pm and then have ~2 hours using the whirlpool, saunas, relaxation room and the sun loungers / parasols in the outdoor relaxation garden which felt so calm and peaceful. The facilities were very well maintained, with everything except one water jet mode of the outdoor whirlpool working perfectly — we were surprised that the spa was renovated / installed in 2006, it felt much newer. The staff were always very friendly and helpful, which contributed to a very relaxed weeks stay. A little piece of paradise! If I had to find faults, as non smokers, we found it horrible when cigarette smoke from nearby balconies drifted into our bedroom, especially at night when we had the door / window open. That leads me to another point — there is no air conditioning (only heating). We arrived when it was 37degC in Zurich (and around 30degC in Stoos), and our room was 27degC and there was no fan! Hence not leaving the door open wasn’t really an option … personally I feel a ‘wellness’ hotel shouldn’t allow smoking anywhere near their premises, as in the summer with all the windows / doors open in the hotel, you didn’t have to go far before you could smell smoke. Fortunately it cooled down during the week we were staying and our bedroom ended up around 21degC (and that is after leaving the balcony door open 24/7) so we could finally sleep more easily. If you’re visiting in the hot summer, bring your own fan!
