Lake route

Les Paccots | Charmey | Gstaad-Schönried | Spiez | Wilen am Sarnersee | Lucerne/Weggis

from CHF 1'225.00 for 4 nights

Price per person in a double room

bookable from mid-April until the end of October 2024 (depends on the snow conditions on the Jaun pass - probably without the stage Chamrey - Gstaad).
Not bookable during Easter, Whitsun and Ascension as well as from 19.6. until 1.7. (revision Baths Gruyère) and from 27.7. to 1.8.2024 (swiss national holiday).

The Lake route takes you from the Lake Geneva through the Gruyère region and Bernese Oberland to central Switzerland. Therby you pass the region of "La Gruyère", cycle over the Jaun Pass to Gstaad-Schönried, continue along the Lakes Thun and Brienz over the Brünig Pass to Sarnen. And if you still want to, you can continue cycling until Lucerne, the city of lights or even Weggis a bit further on Lake Lucerne.

This lake tour takes you on a journey right through the picture postcard scenery of Switzerland. Your first destination is the region of Lake Geneva, then you continue through the hilly landscape to the region of Gruyère, home of Switzerland’s favourite cheese. The Jaunbach gorge leads the way to Gstaad-Schönried, a chalet town in the Saanenland, famous for its chic charm and understated luxury. From there, whizz down into the Simmental valley to the (not-quite-identical) twin lakes of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz - two crystal clear mountain lakes with stunningly captivating panoramas. Worth a visit whilst you’re here is the famous town of Interlaken, situated at the foot of the three famous peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. From there it’s pedal hard, up and over the Brünig Pass. When you arrive at the top, the view of the beautiful sparkling Lake Lungern will be worth the effort!
On the last leg of your ride, head past Lake Sarnen as far as Lake Lucerne – in the very heart of Switzerland – where you’ll find a breath-taking mirror-like reflection of the mountains.

The offer can be booked for 4, 5 or 6 nights:
  • 4 nights: Les Paccots - Charmey - Gstaad - Spiez
  • 5 nights: Les Paccots - Charmey - Gstaad - Spiez - Wilen am Sarnersee
  • 6 nights: Les Paccots - Charmey - Gstaad - Spiez - Wilen am Sarnersee - Luzern or Weggis

Stage 1: from Lake Geneva to the cheesy mountains

From the Mediterranean Lake Geneva region, immerse yourself in the cheesy mountain world of the Gruyère region.

Along Lake Geneva, follow cycle route no. 9 "Lakes Route" to Vevey. In Corsier-sur-Vevey you will come across Charlie Chaplin's footsteps. In the museum "Chaplin's World" you can discover personal objects as well as the life and work of the exceptional artist. He spent the last 25 years of his life in the hills above Vevey with his fourth wife Oona and their eight children.

Take in the Mediterranean feel of Lake Geneva once again here before heading north into the cheesy mountains of the Gruyère region. Through a hilly, lush green landscape, you wind up the valley to Châtel-St-Denis, where you turn right at the Kreiverkehrt instead of following the route to the left and continue to Les Paccots.

Stage 2: Cheese or Chocolate?

From Les Paccots, return to Châtel-Saint-Denis, where you rejoin the lake route no. 9. Follow it to Bulle, a neoclassical town with typical brasseries. From one small town you roll into the next, from Bulle in the direction of Gruyères - with a small diversions, but it's worth it: the small town of Gruyères is considered the main attraction of the region. It owes its picturesque townscape and many visitors to its imposing castle and medieval fortress walls, which blend aesthetically into the green slopes and mountain massifs of Moléson and Dent du Chamois. In Pringy, down in the valley, you can watch Gruyère cheese being made at the Maison du Gruyère.

Here you then change to the No. 4 "Alpine Panorama Route" northwards to Broc. A place that is entirely dedicated to chocolate with the Cailler Museum and production site. If you like, take a detour to Lac de la Gruyère, Switzerland's longest reservoir. From Broc, follow the Saanenland - Freiburgerland Route 59 via Lac de Montasalvens (just as worth seeing as Lac de la Gruyère) to Charmey. Time to relax in the "Les Bain de la Gruyère" directly connected to the hotel! Afterwards, a fine multi-course dinner awaits you at the Hotel Cailler.

Stage 3: Through the Nature Park Gruyère

You start the next stage fortified at the HOTEL CAILLER in Charmey. Along the Jaun and through the wild and romantic Grischbach valley, you ride to Gstaad-Schönried. The Gruyère Nature Park offers unspoilt nature in a beautiful mountain landscape. Thanks to e-bike support, the almost 1000 metres in altitude can be overcome without any problems.

Your efforts are rewarded by the "Chuechetisch" in the ERMITAGE WELLNESS & SPA HOTEL. Then relax your muscles in the hotel's spacious wellness oasis.
If you are more in the mood for nature, then we recommend you take the gondola up to the local mountain Horneggli and enjoy the magnificent view. Enjoy an after-bike cocktail as an aperitif and then spoil your palate with a dinner with choices ranging from "calorie-conscious" to "alkaline-vegetarian" to "epicurean".

Stage 4: down the Simmen valley

Freshly refreshed, you set off on the next day's stage of the Lakes Route. Along the Simme and past numerous ornately decorated wooden houses, you descend the Simmen valley towards Spiez. We recommend a stopover in Diemtigen, a 16-kilometre oasis of naturalness and originality. Diemtigen was rightly awarded the Wakker Prize for its intact village appearance thanks to its magnificent wooden houses. It is also worth visiting Port Wimmis - one of the oldest bridges in the Bernese Oberland. In a splendid location with a view of Lake Thun, a short break awaits you in the wellness and spa area of the HOTEL EDEN SPIEZ. Afterwards you will be spoilt with a multi-course menu in the hotel restaurant.

Stage 5: Over the Brünig pass

Well rested, you tackle the most rigorous but most spectacular stage of the day. First you cycle along Lake Thun to Interlaken. Then it's on along the deep-clear Lake Brienz to Meiringen. Now the crossing of the Brünig Pass awaits you, but this is quickly overcome with e-bike support, and you already have the next breathtaking mountain lake in view - Lake Lunger. If you haven't yet found the perfect place for a breather, the lakeshores are perfect for a rest. It's not far now and you can already make out the outline of the Sarnersee, from where your destination, the SEEHOTEL WILERBAD SPA & SEMINAR, is already within easy reach. Having arrived in Wilen, treat yourself to a well-deserved muscle relaxation in the hotel's spacious wellness oasis. Afterwards, the hotel's own restaurant will spoil you with a classic 3-course dinner.

Stage 6: Through forests, across fields and along lakes

After a hearty breakfast from the buffet, you swing into the saddle for the last stage of the day. Passing Lake Sarnen, Lake Lucerne with its beautiful mountain scenery soon awaits you. After a short stretch you reach Hergiswil, where a visit to the "Glasi", known throughout Switzerland, is worthwhile. After marvelling at the glassblowers, you continue on to Lucerne. There, the landmark - the "Kappelbrücke" (Kappel Bridge) leads you over the Reuss River to the charming old town, where delightful cafés invite you to a "Kaffekränzchen" (coffee break). Finally, a 4-course dinner with a choice of menus at the SCHWEIZERHOF LUZERN rounds off your trip.

OR: You continue along Lake Lucerne to Weggis to the WELLNESS HOTELS ALEXANDER & GERBI****S. The journey on the Lucerne Hinterland Route takes an additional 1.5 hours from Lucerne and offers breathtaking views of Lake Lucerne and the foothills of the Central Swiss Alps. Let yourself be pampered at the Alexander & Gerbi and enjoy a 25-minute well-deserved massage at the end of your bike tour (included in the package price!).
