From the Mediterranean Lake Geneva region, immerse yourself in the cheesy mountain world of the Gruyère region.
Along Lake Geneva, follow cycle route no. 9 "Lakes Route" to Vevey. In Corsier-sur-Vevey you will come across Charlie Chaplin's footsteps. In the museum "Chaplin's World" you can discover personal objects as well as the life and work of the exceptional artist. He spent the last 25 years of his life in the hills above Vevey with his fourth wife Oona and their eight children.
Take in the Mediterranean feel of Lake Geneva once again here before heading north into the cheesy mountains of the Gruyère region. Through a hilly, lush green landscape, you wind up the valley to Châtel-St-Denis, where you turn right at the Kreiverkehrt instead of following the route to the left and continue to Les Paccots.
From Les Paccots, return to Châtel-Saint-Denis, where you rejoin the lake route no. 9. Follow it to Bulle, a neoclassical town with typical brasseries. From one small town you roll into the next, from Bulle in the direction of Gruyères - with a small diversions, but it's worth it: the small town of Gruyères is considered the main attraction of the region. It owes its picturesque townscape and many visitors to its imposing castle and medieval fortress walls, which blend aesthetically into the green slopes and mountain massifs of Moléson and Dent du Chamois. In Pringy, down in the valley, you can watch Gruyère cheese being made at the Maison du Gruyère.
Here you then change to the No. 4 "Alpine Panorama Route" northwards to Broc. A place that is entirely dedicated to chocolate with the Cailler Museum and production site. If you like, take a detour to Lac de la Gruyère, Switzerland's longest reservoir. From Broc, follow the Saanenland - Freiburgerland Route 59 via Lac de Montasalvens (just as worth seeing as Lac de la Gruyère) to Charmey. Time to relax in the "Les Bain de la Gruyère" directly connected to the hotel! Afterwards, a fine multi-course dinner awaits you at the Hotel Cailler.
After a hearty breakfast from the buffet, you swing into the saddle for the last stage of the day. Passing Lake Sarnen, Lake Lucerne with its beautiful mountain scenery soon awaits you. After a short stretch you reach Hergiswil, where a visit to the "Glasi", known throughout Switzerland, is worthwhile. After marvelling at the glassblowers, you continue on to Lucerne. There, the landmark - the "Kappelbrücke" (Kappel Bridge) leads you over the Reuss River to the charming old town, where delightful cafés invite you to a "Kaffekränzchen" (coffee break). At the end of their trip, you enjoy a stay at the SCHWEIZERHOF LUZERN – right in the city centre and by the lake.
OR: You continue along Lake Lucerne to Weggis to the WELLNESS HOTELS ALEXANDER & GERBI****S. The journey on the Lucerne Hinterland Route takes an additional 1.5 hours from Lucerne and offers breathtaking views of Lake Lucerne and the foothills of the Central Swiss Alps. Let yourself be pampered at the Alexander & Gerbi.
