A trip around Lake Garda

from CHF 873.- for 4 nights Price per person in double room

Our free-thinker and free-rider “Swizzlybiker” has designed a programme for motor cyclists around Lake Garda. With the truly unique boutique and agri-tourism hotel “L’Unicorno” located in the heart of “Mille Miglia” territory as “base camp”, we liked it so much that we would recommend it to car drivers as well as motor cyclists.

The following offer is intended for self-driving participants using their own vehicle. We will happily help those who would like to hire a special vehicle for this “Italian Tour” experience to find the right one. (Maybe, for example, a Cinquecento Cabrio or an Alfa Romeo Duetto; or a Harley-Davidson, BMW, Moto-Guzzi or Ducati – we’ll help you sort out the rental of your chosen car or motorbike).

Day 1

Arrival

The BOUTIQUE-HOTEL & AGRITURISMO L’UNICORNO in Bedizzole is an out-of-the-ordinary but nevertheless down-to-earth and authentic holiday hotel in the Lake Garda region. It unites the exclusive atmosphere of past times with the most modern technology for renewable energy. The centuries-old walls enclose the historic buildings and vast vineyards, vegetable allotments and fruit orchards. As well as the friendly owners’ welcome, a real culinary experience and lovely themed rooms await you. You can enjoy the hotel’s own organic wine in the courtyard surrounded by historic buildings. Once you’ve settled into your room, savour a first evening’s dinner whilst you learn more about your imminent tours around Lake Garda.

Day 2

Today you will drive the western shoreline of Lake Garda. Shortly after you take in your first impressions of Lake Garda, comes the first highlight of your tour– the Strada della Forre. This ravine road belongs to the most impressive roads that the Alps have to offer and serves to connect the small village of Pieve, located high above Lake Garda, with its small harbour, the shore and the Gardesana Occidentale main road. The road was planned in 1913 and for the most part winds through the narrow gorges carved out by the mountain river Brasa. The road surface is asphalt but has many narrow sections and blind corners which will represent your first challenge. As well as the gorge itself the eastern section of the road offers stunning views across Lake Garda. After, you’ll drive along Lake Ledro and over the Ampola Pass before you take a break at Lake Idro. On the homeward run, you’ll pass the romanticallysituated“Drive-In-Church” of Santuario della Madonna delle Cornelle, located in the Sabbia valley just after Livrio in the direction of Vobarno. Finally, on this road you’ll reach the western end of Lake Garda at Salo and, after a thrill-filled day, arrive back at your Private Selection Boutique Hotel l’Unicorno.

Day 3

Today you’ll first discover the “Garden of Europe” as botanists call the region of Monte Baldo. The mountain range is 2200 m in altitude and was formed during the Ice Age 500,000 years ago. At the bottom by the lake, its vegetation consists of olive groves, cypress and oak trees. These gradually give way to pine and beech forests. Right at the top, in the mountain meadows, grow a large variety of plants and flowers typically native to Monte Baldo, many of which are particularly rare. “Navene di Bocca”, or “Bocca del Creer / Monte Baldo” are the names of some of the small places you will pass. After a morning of lots of bends and spectacular views, you’ll arrive at the small town of Torbole. From here you’ll have a pleasant drive along the eastern shore of the lake towards Garda and eventually back to your hotel.

Day 4

First up, after a short drive out, you’ll pay a visit to the city of Verona. The Piazza Bra is well worth visiting and, who knows, you might even bump into Romeo and Juliet… Then you will pass small towns and villages like Grezzana, Bosco, Erbezzo, Fosse und Breonio. All of these places have their own stories to tell. “Marble and Wine” – that could be the title for today’s stage of your tour as you will get to glimpse quarries and workshop sites with tons of marble waiting to be processed. In between the black and white slabs, red traces discreetly peep out from underneath - the red marble, the hallmark of the province of Verona. This rare rock is highly sought after and exported worldwide. You’ll travel on winding, narrow, lesser-travelled roads through towns such as San Pietro, San Floriana, or Pedemonte. Valpolicella is the name of this region – and also its wine. From here comes one of the most-consumed Italian red wines. Valpolicella is made from the Corvina Veronese grape variety. You’ll take to the road back to the hotel once more – back “home” to the L’Unicorno where you’ll enjoy a farewell dinner accompanied by the house’s own wine, produced organically from the indigenous Gropello and Rebo grape varieties and with the love and expertise of your hosts.

Day 5

All good things must come to an end and that includes holidays. After one last sumptuous breakfast at your Private Selection Boutique Hotel Agriturismo l’Unicorno it’s time to hit the road on your homeward journey – hopefully with a sincere “Arrivederci” on your lips.
